Q A

Who is Mary Baker Eddy?

Mary Baker Eddy (1821–1910) is the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, and author of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, the essential book on Christian Science healing, which has been read by more than nine million people since it was first published in 1875. Mrs. Eddy was raised in New Hampshire by parents who were devout Congregationalists. The Bible was central to her religious and educational upbringing.

Her early adult life saw more than its share of serious personal tragedies and poor health. Over the next twenty years her life included an intense spiritual search, and chronic illness led her to explore many curative methods. She found permanent healing through God's love and power when she discovered Christian Science.

Mary Baker Eddy founded the Church of Christ, Scientist, "... to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing."
