PRAYER BULLETINS

Chaplain Horton, who is based at present in Heidelberg, Germany, shares her thoughts on a variety of subjects in a daily bulletin that is faxed and e-mailed from her office to soldiers on duty in Germany, Hungary, and Bosnia. Here is an excerpt from a recent message sent out under the heading "The fullness of His love":

When we pray, we receive beautiful messages from God, spiritual intuitions and insight. They fill our hearts and minds, our very consciousness, with the strongest defense we can have against anger, frustration, helplessness, or any of the other daily types of trials or tribulations. ... A heart filled with the knowledge of God's love for His people is filled with joy, praise, assurance, and other impenetrable forces.

"It's been so reassuring," said Chaplain Horton, "to see the response to these dispatches. They have done much in our unit to eliminate pettiness, destructive criticism, and lack of gratitude. Chaplains of several different faith traditions have thanked me specifically for these gentle reminders that we must always lay a foundation of prayer for spiritual advancement. I think the message is getting through, and many men and women in uniform are discovering—or rediscovering—the might and permanence of God's resources."
