"Love's recompense"
Many Christians and those of other faiths hold dear the concept of loving their neighbors and unselfishly doing good to others. They instinctively know, and Bible passages confirm, that there is a divine law underlying such living and acting that rewards the giver in ways sometimes unforeseen.
Living to bless others depends on obedience to spiritual law. Such living grows out of an understanding that man is spiritual and has an unbreakable relation to God, good. The trust in God that develops as we put this knowledge into practice destroys fear that loving others can deprive us of good or of the benefits we need. As Christ Jesus says: "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again" (Luke 6:38).
This sweet confidence in God's provision leads us to give even when inconvenience, sacrifice, or expense may result. Sometimes maintaining this attitude takes courage when circumstances seem difficult and demanding, but experience in the operation of this spiritual law in our daily rounds gives us the strength and faith to trust God when challenges loom large.
