Editors' Note: The ecumenical prayer service mentioned here came about in the wake of a widely publicized murder case. Original reports had racial overtones and stirred up extensive ill will. Further evidence uncovered the fact that race had not been a factor in the crime.

In the face of overwhelming need to heal community divisions, joining together in prayer seemed like a natural, practical first step. Clergymen, city officials, and other members of the community filled the church to capacity.
