Christian Science Reading Rooms: havens for spiritual renewal

Reading Rooms aren't just places for escape from the world's bustle. They are spiritual oases for active refreshment and renewal.

All of us, I'm sure, have entered the door of a welcoming home and instantly felt the soothing warmth and hospitality of that friendly atmosphere. The love and approval that greeted us there made us feel that we had found a haven of peace and understanding. That is how I feel when I enter a Christian Science Reading Room. Through the years I have found the atmosphere there to be an oasis, a personal sanctuary, a gateway to spiritual renewal and healing.

Although we each can pray to God anytime, anywhere—at work, while traveling, at home, wherever we are or whatever we are doing—there are times when we seek a quiet retreat where we may find the peace and friendly surroundings we need to feel closer to God. Some of my friends say they find this by hiking alone into the hills and mountains, others perhaps by walking along a lonely stretch of beach. I can find my quiet spot right in the middle of a busy city. Christian Science Reading Rooms provide a healing atmosphere that welcomes every seeker of spiritual renewal and provides a haven for all who would learn that man is the spiritual idea of God, not a matter-made mortal.

I've been in Christian Science Reading Rooms all over North America and in parts of Europe, and I have found them, large and small alike, a spiritual harbor. They offer a place to refresh thought and replace fear, despair, loneliness, worry, with the spiritual facts of the allness of God, good, and of the perfection of man as His reflection. Daily, thousands of people throughout the world visit these friendly study rooms to gain a clearer understanding of God's love for them. They acknowledge the guiding presence of the Christ to direct their way, and they receive the divine inspiration needed to meet their needs. In the warmth and hospitality of these rooms, one's fears and problems are removed or lightened as thought yields to the presence of Truth. It is supremely natural that one leaves assured, comforted, and healed.
