Worshiping God in "the beauty of holiness"

The spirit in which we live and pray is the key to genuine worship.

Many persons worship as mere formality or just as a routine matter. But true worship is much more than mere routine action. It is a thing of the heart and mind. It is all-embracing service to our creator in whom, as the Bible tells us, "we live, and move, and have our being." It is spiritual union with the infinite Mind, our heavenly Father-Mother.

When I was a child, there were certain Bible passages that gave me great joy and inspiration, and they continue to do so. I like reading or hearing them being read to me. One of my favorite passages is this verse from Psalms: "O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness."

What is "the beauty of holiness"? It is so much more than being physically beautiful or handsome. The beauty God creates in man must be the embodiment of spiritual qualities, of beauty beyond description. To be like our Maker, therefore, in whose image and likeness we are created, it is necessary to worship with pure mind and affection, loving our neighbors as ourselves, carrying out that injunction by our Master, Christ Jesus, "And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise."
