It
may be a bit of a surprise to you to open this week's Sentinel and find a special section on Nigeria.
The Bible story about winning the battle at Jericho, when the walls came tumbling down, symbolized, for this writer, the effect prayer can have in our communities. And what community doesn't have walls of fear and hate that need to fall?
"Search of the truth has made me write to your association.
Sometimes it seems as though time or distance or differences with others make it hard for us to give help. But prayer and the power of divine Love aren't hindered by such barriers.
In prayer we not only learn of God's omnipotence; we learn to recognize the evidence of His care in our lives.
There is a light that shines in lives touched by the Christ; it's a light which helps others to find their way.
As we respond to divine Love we see things in new and different ways. We begin to see our neighbors as they really are—expressions of God under His care. This kind of perception can dissolve conflict.
Healing that comes as a result of our own individual communion with God brings with it great spiritual strength.
Not giving up is important to people who face calamity. But it's equally important that those who can give help not give up helping.
My
first testimony appeared in the Sentinel over forty years ago, so it is surely time to express my continuing gratitude for all that Christian Science has meant to me through the intervening years.
The past year has been one of challenge and victory.
I have always been grateful that my grandmother accepted Christian Science when it was presented to her and that my mother continued the study and raised my sister and me in this wonderful Science.
With deep gratitude to God, I give this testimony.
