My first testimony appeared in the Sentinel over forty years...

My first testimony appeared in the Sentinel over forty years ago, so it is surely time to express my continuing gratitude for all that Christian Science has meant to me through the intervening years. The study of its teachings and their prayerful application have been a strong support, and the sense of quiet communion with God that Science inculcates is a treasure words cannot adequately describe.

These years have included a happy marriage to a dedicated and spiritually-minded Christian Scientist. The arrival of a dear son was cause for deep gratitude. Early in my pregnancy the threat of a miscarriage was averted by our own prayers and those of a Christian Science practitioner. In response to the practitioner's request, I thoughtfully studied the following citation in Miscellaneous Writings by Mary Baker Eddy: "Immortal Mind is God, immortal good; in whom the Scripture saith 'we live, and move, and have our being.' This Mind, then, is not subject to growth, change, or diminution, but is the divine intelligence, or Principle, of all real being; holding man forever in the rhythmic round of unfolding bliss, as a living witness to and perpetual idea of inexhaustible good." When informed of this healing, which took place over a period of three days, the obstetrician termed it "a miracle."

One of our family's most interesting healings took place when our son was about ten or eleven years old. It was apparent that his hearing had begun to deteriorate. It was necessary for him to be placed in the front row of his classrooms. At home he could hear a television program only by sitting very near the TV. We prayed about this, and our son received treatment through prayer from a practitioner.
