Dear Reader

It may be a bit of a surprise to you to open this week's Sentinel and find a special section on Nigeria. We hope you'll welcome these contributions from another part of the globe.

We know you'll agree that Sentinel readers by nature just don't think in terms of traditional boundaries and narrow interests. As Martin K. Budu-Kwatiah writes, "prayer crosses all boundaries." The whole Sentinel this week carries that message, we think.

Michael Rissler's editorial, for example, touches on a conversation he had with a worker for an international organization about relief efforts in Eritrea, Peru, and Soviet Armenia. He goes on to write of the recognition of God as Life that brings relief to mankind, and he asks, "Won't you join in the hard but good work of developing such compassion and spiritual understanding of God?" Elaine Natale says frankly, in her editorial: "Today people are facing great challenges. Material beliefs can seem dark. ... Through Christly love, we can obey our good shepherd's command to care for the sheep and can demonstrate more of what it means to be 'wakeful shepherds.'"
