With deep gratitude to God, I give this testimony. Two summers ago I noticed a small spot or blemish on my leg. I thought perhaps it was an insect bite. In the weeks that followed, however, it developed into an unsightly, hard lump. It was painful if anything touched it. I began to pray.

While considering the situation, I came across this statement by Mrs. Eddy in Retrospection and Introspection: "When all fleshly belief is annihilated, and every spot and blemish on the disk of consciousness is removed, then, and not till then, will immortal Truth be found true, and scientific teaching, preaching, and practice be essentially one." This was my call to action. Through many good hours and days of study and prayer I held on to that statement and tried to practice what I was learning.

I also found this sentence in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy: "If the student adheres strictly to the teachings of Christian Science and ventures not to break its rules, he cannot fail of success in healing." I researched references to rules in the writings of Mrs. Eddy. It was a stimulating and rewarding search. It brought many corrections in the way I thought of others and dealt with others. I learned to guard against self-will; I came to have more compassion, patience, and unselfishness; and I prayed ceaselessly to be more Christlike.
