The plight of universal suffering, and the fact that I myself had suffered from a chronic disease of the ear since my youth, caused me to investigate different religions with the hope that I might find in them the healing influence of God through Christ.

Then one day a dear friend gave me two issues of The Herald of Christian Science. Reading these magazines and their statements that Spirit is the only true substance and that matter is in reality only a false belief, a mortal dream, helped me to identify myself better as the spiritual image and likeness of our Maker, a loving Father who cares for us.

Very soon the opportunity presented itself to demonstrate these great truths. I was working on a construction job when my co-workers and I were informed by union representatives that to take advantage of approaching deadlines for many projects, it was necessary to carry out partial strikes to obtain higher pay. The strikes were sanctioned at the national level of the union, not only in the construction field but also in several other occupations.
