My parents were introduced to Christian Science when I was a small child, and from that time until now I have relied on Christian Science to solve my problems, physical and otherwise. I have had healings of polio, blindness resulting from a fractured skull, back injury, and many other difficulties.
Some time ago I was seized by recurrent attacks of sharp internal pain. I studied a great deal from the Bible and from the chapter entitled "Christian Science Practice" in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I also had some prayerful help from a Christian Science practitioner. After a time the attacks lessened, but a week later, on a Sunday morning, I was struck by another attack that seemed worse than any in the past. I felt I was losing consciousness. At the time I was at the Christian Science Society of which I was then a member, preparing for the service later that morning, as I was serving as First Reader. I was alone, but I knew that God is ever present, ever protective, and ever available to provide me with healing help.
With this in mind I realized that Mrs. Eddy brought to mankind the greatest practical, available help in the use of the Bible and her writings to provide for all our needs. I turned to the twenty-third Psalm and realized that God as Shepherd would always protect and guide me. Then I turned to Christ Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. While contemplating these verses I thought of this statement on page 393 of Science and Health: "Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action." In the next paragraph Mrs. Eddy states, "Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God's government."
