To heal a "house divided"

Christ Jesus once healed a man who could neither see nor speak. There were many witnesses present, ready to proclaim Jesus as the promised Messiah. But when the Pharisees learned of Jesus' accomplishment and the sense of wonder and reverence it had occasioned, they accused him of working in consonance with the devil.

Of course, Jesus refuted this vicious attempt to discredit his God-appointed mission. The Bible indicates that the Master immediately discerned what appeared to be in the Pharisees' thought and countered their accusation with irrefutable spiritual insight and precision. He said, "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: and if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?" Matt. 12:25,26. Obviously, it could not. But Jesus knew and proved that the Christ, Truth, would reign forever.

Throughout human history the world has furnished numerous examples to support Jesus' basic argument about a "house divided." Wherever we accept a lack of commitment and fidelity in place of man's divine purpose as the expression of God—in place of man's unbroken unity with the Father—we will likely find dissension and a potential for calamity in human experience. Where do we look for healing?
