Theme for a never-ending day
I hear the theme
announced in trumpet tones—
I am alive with Christ in God!
I listen, and the theme becomes
a fugue of seven voices,
having no prelude
and no final chords.
Each dawn is vibrant
with its counterpoint of joy.
God is the only Life!
The music of His day unfolds
in deep, unmeasured cadences of Love,
evoked from Soul, impelled by Spirit's breath.
I am at once the listener and the fugue.
Throbbing in ordered pulse and consonant with Mind,
truth is the pristine grandeur of my song.
And when the counterpoint is marked
by silent, measured rests,
I hear the ever-vibrant overtones—
I am alive with Christ in God!
Cecile Hyatt
