Some thirty years ago an operation was to be performed on me for a lump in the breast. There had been two previous operations. I had begun to attend Christian Science church services and was studying Christian Science a little, but was not relying on it for healing.

A testimony at a Wednesday evening meeting alerted me to the power of prayer, and after the service I asked an usher how to locate a practitioner. A copy of The Christian Science Journal was given to me, and the listing of practitioners pointed out. I called one and arranged an appointment for the next day.

At the talk with the practitioner I was shown that the condition to be healed was more fundamental than a condition of matter. A healing of thought through prayer was needed. There was fear and hatred to be overcome. She gave me some citations to study from the Bible and from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The citations were about Spirit and spiritual being.
