I have always loved God, and as a child I respected, without understanding, the Holy Bible. I was always delicate, "below par," my mother used to say. When I was twenty-seven years old I attended a testimony meeting in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, in Wellington, with my mother-in-law and father-in-law. My husband and I were living in Auckland, and I was visiting his parents to introduce them to their two-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter, whom they were longing to meet. At that time all I knew of Christian Science was that, in Auckland, a beautiful church edifice had just been built.

After attending that testimony meeting I was immediately healed of constipation and recurring attacks of inflammation of kidneys and bladder, and attacks of laryngitis; and I grew strong and well. I didn't fully realize for some months that I was healed of these distressing complaints. But I was aware of a great upliftment of thought and a longing to attend the Christian Science church services when I returned to Auckland.

I began to read Christian Science literature, and soon to study the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly. At last I found I could understand the Bible, and what a revelation it was! I remember the spiritual joy I felt when I found in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, in the Glossary, the definition of "angels." The opening words are (p. 581): "God's thoughts passing to man."
