Is some active step required of us? Or do we simply wait until circumstances or situations change, or until someone lifts us up and out of the depths?

At one time I was waiting for precisely this to happen. You can imagine my great disappointment when, after a time of wallowing in the mire of depression, I was no better, and the one to whom I had turned for help was reminding me that I had something to do to regain my joy. She likened joy and inspiration to the sugar bowl on the shelf. The sugar was not going to jump off the shelf into my hands. I was going to have to reach up and get it.
