LISTENING AND HEARING

Father, I am listening.
I am listening right now.
I am listening carefully
for a healing, loving thought.

I will not let an angry situation
or any wounded pride
influence me for a single moment,
for then I would not be listening to You.

I will silence the useless cry of temper,
the resentful thought, the hurt.
I will hush the clamor
of a willful, personal sense.

Then
instead of the noise of error
I will hear
Your quieting word,
dear Father,
revealing to me
the beauty,
harmony,
and calm
of brotherly love.
