A Niche for Each of Us

The pinnacle of our spiritual growth is the filling of our individual niche as the reflection of divine Mind.

We often think of our niche as a specific mission in the activity of church, home, or business. Sometimes we think of it in terms of an eternal spiritual purpose. Reasoning in this way, many Christian Scientists are willing to fill certain church posts, such as Readership in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, because they feel divinely anointed and supported in doing so. Mrs. Eddy writes: "God is responsible for the mission of those whom He has anointed. Those who know no will but His take His hand, and from the night He leads to light." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 347;

Filling one's niche requires a basic motive of love for God. It requires humble, patient, unselfish listening for divine guidance and the yielding of human personality to one's true, spiritual identity. Mrs. Eddy declares: "No person can take the individual place of the Virgin Mary. No person can compass or fulfil the individual mission of Jesus of Nazareth. No person can take the place of the author of Science and Health, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. Each individual must fill his own niche in time and eternity." Retrospection and Introspection, p. 70;
