It Isn't You!

A reprimand, followed by hurt feelings and a slamming door. Onlookers say "She's a temperamental teen-ager." "He's got a temper like his dad." "A very sensitive young lady." Sound familiar?

When this role has been enacted enough times, people begin to expect us to react in this way. But I've been this route and have news for you. We don't have to act out the scene. We don't have to live up to the mental patterns or labels. Labels identify products, not people. We can say confidently, "I'm not like that!"

One summer day my daughter and I were relaxing on the beach. We had just finished reading the Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly. Both of us questioned the meaning of Paul's statement in his letter to the Christians in Rome, "For the good that I would I do not." Rom. 7:19; My daughter said, "When I was little and my feelings were hurt, I'd run into my bedroom and crawl under the bed. One day I discovered I couldn't fit under the bed, so I sulked in the closet."
