EXPECTING YOU
Expecting You is nourishing
as the promise of sunrise—
the one I've hungered at 5:30 a.m for,
hurried for, frozen for,
and finally hung there, breathless.
Your coming is like that—
immediate and colourful—
the largess of your presence, Father,
reaching its accurate blessings
quickly and bountifully
into my huddling soul.
Worth braving that first hidden hour
tight with anticipation,
for beyond this particular coming
I treasure a tumble of arrivals.
So I wait, most patiently, with my colorless hunger—
because You are coming,
have come, will continue to come,
and have always been here.
