After two years of employment with a large firm I suddenly found myself in the midst of what I consider to be very unprincipled activity. Each effort I made to correct the improper actions met with resistance. It finally came to the point of my having to yield to the improper practices or quit my job. I chose the latter.

My wife and I were expecting our first child at the time, and it was my immediate concern to supply the family's income. I had left a good paying job with a growing company for something yet unknown. A statement made by Mrs. Eddy in Miscellaneous Writings comforted this concern over family responsibility (p. 307): "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies. Never ask for to-morrow: it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need every moment."

Weeks passed without my locating a suitable position. Fear began to grip me. It looked as if I might be jobless for some time to come. Many people expressed the opinion that available work in my particular profession was very scarce, while qualified individuals seeking these positions were more numerous than they had ever been. The human picture did not look pleasant. Every time fear entered my thought I clung to the passage from Isaiah (41:10): "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
