"All our thoughts should be given to the absolute demonstration...
"All our thoughts should be given to the absolute demonstration of Christian Science," said our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 136). And in Science and Health she writes (p. 306), "Undisturbed amid the jarring testimony of the material sense, Science, still enthroned, is unfolding to mortals the immutable, harmonious, divine Principle,—is unfolding and Life and the universe, ever present and eternal."
Last year I had a wonderful, instantaneous healing of what appeared to be a serious heart condition, when I became ill quite unexpectedly one night. I felt I could neither move nor speak, but I could still think. I felt assured that the spiritual understanding I had gained through years of study and application of Christian Science would cast out as unreal this presentment of evil. I did not panic but quietly put my hand in God's right hand and said in the words of the Lord's Prayer, "Thy will be done" (Matt. 6:10). I understood God's will to be altogether good. I maintained that Spirit is God and that the understanding of this destroys the belief in matter. I quietly, persistently affirmed the truth—the unvarying action of God, good, who is infinite and therefore the only action, the real action. I saw that the mortal concept of a heart attack had nothing to do with Life. I was healed.
Mrs. Eddy tells us (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 232), "The unerring and fixed Principle of all healing is God; and this Principle should be sought from the love of good, from the most spiritual and unselfish motives."
We realize with great humility and gratitude that God's ways are wonderful and that nothing is impossible to Him. In proprotion to our absolute reliance on Him, while we maintain a high sense of honesty in our human activities, all our needs are supplied.
Some years ago I had had many family troubles and faced an impasse from which there seemed to be no escape. I became weak and exhausted, losing control over the body but yet holding my deep faith and trust in God. One day I collapsed, and in the fall my arm was fractured. The Christian Science practitioner who treated me called my attention to Psalms 34 (v. 20), "He [God] keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.' With sincere trust and faith in God, adherence to the teachings of Christian Science, and the strong, prayerful support of the practitioner, I was completely healed. I began to work again in my home and enjoy perfect health.
Freedom and joy come increasingly into our lives when we understand that God, infinite Truth and Love, is the governor in control. "Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is" (Jer. 17:7).
