My increasing gratitude for Christian Science prompts me to give...
My increasing gratitude for Christian Science prompts me to give the following testimony. Not long ago I was healed of a cold. I was refinishing a wood floor and a piece of furniture, and my goal was to complete the work within a reasonable time. The people for whom the work was being done didn't know I was feeling ill.
Holding a clear sense of the truth of man's unity with God kept me from dwelling on the discomfort. The following Bible truth, in Christ Jesus' words, kept me from staying at home and ruminating on the problem (Luke 16:13): "No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." As I didn't think it fair to stop in the middle of the job and delay the work, there was no stoppage. During this experience I resolved to love every facet of my work, keeping my consciousness filled with God's love for man.
At this time, increased activities at my branch church left me with less time for sleeping and eating. However, I was unaffected by the decrease in food and sleep. The following truths meant to me that by serving God and not mammon I could not suffer. I understood that God's law is the only law. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy states (p. 218), "The consciousness of Truth rests us more than hours of repose in unconsciousness." And she writes (ibid., p. 388), "The fact is, food does not affect the absolute Life of man, and this becomes self-evident, when we learn that God is our Life."
