"The one only way"

This emphatic-sounding title is a marginal heading in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Alongside it is this unequivocal and potent healing passage: "There is but one way to heaven, harmony, and Christ in divine Science shows us this way. It is to know no other reality—to have no other consciousness of life—than good, God and His reflection, and to rise superior to the so-called pain and pleasure of the senses." Science and Health, p. 242;

Having once gained at least some insight into that paragraph's meaning, we need never again feel we don't know which way to go, or where to turn for healing.

To know no other reality than God ... To what are we ascribing reality? To disease? Or are we allotting reality to God? To what are we attributing consciousness? To matter and the brain? Or are we acknowledging that divine consciousness is the only consciousness? Ascribing consciousness and reality to God, we can begin subordinating the discords of the world of the senses. We discover that the fastest road to heaven, or harmony, is in realizing that our real selfhood never departed from there. In a statement about Christ Jesus that is equally true of each of us today, as God's child, Mrs. Eddy writes: "Jesus' true and conscious being never left heaven for earth. It abode forever above, even while mortals believed it was here." No and Yes, p. 36;
