"Now let's see if Christian Science works," challenged a dear member of the family as I hobbled into the living room, an ankle badly sprained, quite ill from shock. I was a new student of Christian Science at that time, some twenty years ago, and sincerely wanted to rely on Christian Science treatment for healing.

The practitioner I had tried to reach by phone was not in. I needed immediate relief from pain and nausea and in this extremity—"man's extremity is God's opportunity"—I took my copy of Science and Health and went to a back bedroom where I could study and pray undisturbed. I don't recall the specific passages I read, but in about half an hour I stood up on both feet without pain and walked into the kitchen for a belated supper. I worked the next day, did a lot of walking, and that evening put on a tightly fitted pair of western boots and went square dancing.

I have always been grateful to our Father-Mother God for this first healing through study of Mrs. Eddy's revelation in Science and Health. A number of healings by reading the book followed during the years.
