Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain (I Cor. 9:24)

C.K. Barrett comments"... Paul does not mean that only one Christian, or one out of each group, or indeed any arbitrarily limited number, will achieve the prize appointed by God. The weight of his argument is directed simply against the notion that there is an automatic connection between running and winning. There is none. The Christian must not only start but continue in the right way; it is implied that he must put forth all his strength."
