When I was two years old, I became ill while our family was on a trip. My parents called a physician. He diagnosed the problem as double pneumonia.

The condition did not improve with medical attention, and the friend at whose home we were staying asked Mother and Dad if they would consider treatment through prayer. Receiving their consent our hostess sat down with her Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, for specific study, affirming my perfection as a child of God. Soon I was resting. So strong was her faith and so receptive were my parents that within forty-eight hours I was out of bed and happily playing—well!

This friend later became a Christian Science practitioner, helping uncounted people to realize God's healing presence.
