How grateful I am for an increasing understanding of God's protection and love for all mankind.

Two years ago, while I was driving on the freeway, my car was hit in the rear by another car traveling at a high rate of speed. I declared, "God's child can't be hurt," and when the highway patrolman arrived and asked if I were hurt, I answered, "No, I am not hurt."

When I arrived home, I was in great pain and shock and immediately telephoned a Christian Science practitioner for help. But I was unable to reach the practitioner, so I sat down with my copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and read (p.181): "Before deciding that the body, matter, is disordered, one should ask, 'Who art thou that repliest to Spirit? Can matter speak for itself, or does it hold the issues of life?' " I laughed out loud. Why, of course, I thought, "Who do you think you are, trying to tell me that God is not supreme?" All sense of shock immediately disappeared. I continued to study to lift my thought above the mortal picture of suffering. Later, I reached the practitioner by phone, and her firm declarations of truth and assurance of God's presence and power enabled me to sleep comfortably that night. The accident took place on Friday afternoon, and I was at work on Monday morning. All pain and stiffness were gone, and I was completely healed.
