The One and Only Attraction
What attracts us most? Is it the dazzling display in the world's shopwindows? Or the persuasive pull of adventure? Or the thirst for personal recognition? Christian Science points out the sure way to fulfillment and peace. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." Science and Health, p.1; Trusting God with our desires requires humility and an unshakable confidence in His unfailing direction, even in the face of what may seem overwhelming and insurmountable difficulties. There are no obstacles to divine Love.
Christian Science reveals that God, Spirit, divine Mind, the creative, divine Principle, is the center, circumference, and substance of all true being. All ideas of God unfold in the infinity and allness of Mind and center in Him. We respond to the irresistible attraction of Spirit as we rejoice in the allness of divine Love and reject as lawless the selfish claims of the mortal, or fleshly, mind. The Christ, the true idea of God, removes the veil of material sense and illumines our consciousness with the light of Truth, revealing the way of true attraction, the gravitation toward God, Spirit.
When we daily commune with Him in prayer, acknowledging Him as our source, the fountain of all being, we simultaneously perceive ourselves as His expression, or, as Christ Jesus taught, as children of our heavenly Father. We thus identify ourselves with the Christ, the spiritual selfhood of man as the reflection of God. The Christ, Truth, begins to purify our thought and character, and we become receptive of the guidance of divine Mind.
