Increase Your Spirituality-Reduce Your Liability

How can one escape from being victimized by disease, accident, crime, poverty, old age? There must be a way, and indeed there is. He can do it by learning what the Bible teaches about man as God's image and by proving for himself that he is a spiritual idea emanating from God—instead of a frail mortal in a material body, liable to all sorts of evil. This learning, or awakening, process may be gradual as Truth dawns on human consciousness. But as it inevitably does, one's liability to error is reduced and will continue to decrease as reality displaces mortality and a Christly consciousness is expressed.

Our Master, Christ Jesus, knew his real selfhood to be spiritual. He knew God to be his Father, his source, his habitation. He said, "I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father." John 16:28; He was taken prisoner and delivered to the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate. Standing in the judgment hall, with his enemies outside crying for his crucifixion, Jesus refused to answer one of Pilate's searching questions. But when Pilate boastfully asked, "Knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?" Jesus did answer with words which have reverberated down the centuries: "Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above." 19:10, 11;

In this brief reply the Master stated his unshakable conviction that his Father, God, was the only source of power, law, or authority. Not even the threat of the crucifixion could sway him from this inborn spiritual standpoint. It was this understanding that rendered Jesus invulnerable to evil, as proved by his resurrection and ascension.
