We Can Have Better Conditions!

Mankind is always concerned about the condition of things. The economy, health, church, national and international politics, weather and crops, marriage and family, and situations in our cities—from time to time, these all engage earnest attention. Some troublesome conditions defy all human attempts to correct them. Many have asked, Is there a supreme intelligence—a wholly beneficent force—that could be drawn upon for sorely needed solutions?

The Bible is filled with assurances that such a power does exist. One of many convincing utterances is that of Jeremiah in his prayer: "Ah Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee." Jer. 32:17;

Traditional material thought-patterns comprise, in belief, a so-called mortal mind, termed in Scripture "the carnal mind" (see Rom. 8:7). Every discord, individual or collective, is basically the belief that mortal mind (suppositional mental force opposed to God, good) is making conditions for humanity. But the spiritual fact is that all-harmonious divine Mind conditions man's true being. God empowers the activity of His pure ideas in all real consciousness. This fact of man's true identity, understood and practiced, acts as harmonizer in human situations. Our part is in learning to allow only God's pure thoughts to outline our conclusions and actions. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Immortal Mind, governing all, must be acknowledged as supreme in the physical realm, so-called, as well as in the spiritual." Science and Health, p. 427;
