Having been enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School at the age of three years, I learned that God is Love and that He loves and cares for each one of His children. The growing understanding of God and of His ever-protecting love sustained me throughout my school days, resulting in near-perfect attendance. I have learned through the teachings of Christian Science that man is governed by God, Spirit, and is not subject to material sense. When at school, I was regarded as a highly-strung child and oversensitive. Since then, I have learned to demonstrate the truth of man's being as the perfect child of God, perfect Mind.

Four years ago, while playing golf with friends, I had an opportunity to prove Mrs. Eddy's statement from Science and Health (p. 424): "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God's unerring direction and thus bring out harmony." During our game a friend—not realizing I was behind him—swung his iron club over his shoulder and its head struck me on the face. I was knocked to the ground, I put my hand up to cover the jawbone which had been hit. Silently I affirmed Mrs. Eddy's words (ibid., pp. 476-477): "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick."

By this time our other two friends had joined us and I told them I was all right. The boy who had struck me was very upset. However, I knew that as God's idea, he could not be responsible for anything but good. This realization freed him from the false sense of responsibility. I had proved many times that there is no sensation in matter and I continued declaring the allness of God. Within seconds, I was completely free from pain and immediately rejoined the game. There was no bruising or discomfort of any kind. I am grateful for this healing, for it was a great proof to me that God's healing law is instantaneous.
