Intrinsic Substance

The substance of man, God's spiritual idea, is nondepletable. Man's source is eternal Mind, and Mind's substance is inexhaustible. Mind knows its own idea and is the substance and condition of its reality. If Mind ceased to be able to know and to manifest itself, then the substance of the spiritual idea would disappear. Perfect Mind sustains its own infinite expression. Therefore the substance of the spiritual idea is invariable and harmonious. Mind, or Life, and its idea are not here today, gone tomorrow; good today, bad tomorrow; active today, inert tomorrow.

Is all this simply a hopeful theory, or can it be proved in daily living? Christian Science affirms the totality of spiritual Truth, or substance, and denies the reality of matter. If we recognize this Science as the law of God, good, it can harmonize every aspect of our present experience. When we bring ourselves under God's law, accept it as true, and diligently practice our understanding of it, we bring out in every aspect of our lives recognizable and tangible evidences of God's power and presence.

In order to bring our lives into accord with the law of good, we need to bring our thinking into rapport with Mind's knowing. We can do this as we recognize that man, the true idea or reflection of God, can have no other Mind or creator. Acceptance of God as the one immutable Spirit, the great I am, instilled in Moses the courage, wisdom, and strength to proceed, step by step, through the human maze of oppression, lack, and ungodliness to lead the Israelites to freedom.
