The Power of Words
"Weigh your words before speaking" is good advice, for in this way a person can avoid the pitfalls of speaking too hastily, foolishly, or unkindly. Words can be servants of good or evil. Words spoken in anger and hate can cause rifts, chaos, and heartbreak. In contrast, words spoken in calmness, love, and truth bring healing and harmony to families, proper resolution of business problems, and serenity and affection in marriage. How very important it is then for those who wish only to do good to think carefully before they speak!
Emily Dickinson expressed the thought of weighing words very wisely when she wrote in her poem "A Word":
