Obeying Spiritual Demands Brings Joy

A friend asked me recently, "What does Christian Science require of you?" Answering became a useful challenge. One important demand is put concisely by Mrs. Eddy in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, "Like our Master, we must depart from material sense into the spiritual sense of being." Science and Health, p. 41;

Christian Science leads its student to focus on this purpose: to live more consistently within what he is coming to perceive as real, spiritual existence—the kingdom of God. In this kingdom the limitations of a material sense of being do not exist. God is not far off; He is at hand. Health is not dependent on a condition of the material body; health is a spiritual fact. Love, life, intelligence, joy, are not the result of congenial human situations or states; these are unconditional gifts of the Father-Mother God to man, who is His wholly spiritual offspring, His reflection, His evidence.

Too good to be true? No, this is reality, as Christian Science reveals it. In the degree that one understands this reality he can demonstrate it. But intellectual acceptance or mere wishful thinking is not sufficient for understanding.
