SPIRITUALIZING THOUGHT

through beholding man's true being

The Psalmist praised God for his manifold and marvelous blessings, and he evidently perceived something of man's true being when he said, "As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness." Ps. 17: 15;

Seeing the spiritual reality of man, the true likeness or reflection of God, means understanding man's perfect spiritual relationship to God, divine Mind. Beholding spiritual man isn't difficult when we are advancing in a clear, working understanding of what God is. It's highly important in identifying man correctly that we start with our Father-Mother God. If we don't have some knowledge of the one infinite creator—if we don't accept and appreciate His all-inclusive goodness, intelligence, and strength—how can we possibly know man, the perfect reflection of His omnipresent allness? Mrs. Eddy defines God as "the great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence." Science and Health, p. 587;

God has no physical form or body. He is not contained in man or restricted in any way. But what about man, made, as the Bible declares, in God's image and likeness? (See Gen. 1:26.) Although it would appear that we have many restrictions and limitations, spiritualized thinking—understanding divine Principle as the only cause or creator—reverses the general material concept of man as mortal and reveals man's true nature as the unlimited, perfect idea of God, infinite Spirit.
