Since my last testimony was given in The Christian Science Journal, October,...

Since my last testimony was given in The Christian Science Journal, October, 1958, I have had many proofs of healing in Christian Science.

I wish to give the following experience because through it I learned the importance of cooperating with a Christian Science practitioner when seeking help.

I had been suffering with faulty action of the stomach and heart for some time. I was unable to sleep or eat and had constant, severe discomfort. This caused my family great fear and concern for my life.

After having the faithful prayers of a practitioner for some time, with no seeming improvement, I asked my daughter to tell this faithful worker I would need no more help. This led my family to believe I was giving up to discouragement. I declined further help, not knowing why. However, I know now I was divinely directed.

I began to search my consciousness as to why I had received no healing. I was reminded of past healings resulting just from working with the Lord's Prayer. Then the thought came, "You have not been working with the truth but going along with the error, acknowledging it with your moaning; in other words, you have been saying to error, 'Yes, right here you are,' while the practitioner was denying error." I was awakened to see we had been going in opposite directions mentally.

I then started to repeat the Lord's Prayer very slowly, over and over. After repeating it a number of times I stopped at the words, "Hallowed be thy name" (Matt. 6:9). I said, "Dear God, what do You want me to know here?" I finally realized the name of an incurable disease had been in my consciousness. But if God, the only creator, saw everything that He made and called it "very good" (Gen. 1:31), then this error, not being good, had no creator. It did not exist. From then on, every time pain suggested itself I would answer, "Yes, God, 'Hallowed be thy name,'" realizing the allness of God and His perfect creation, keeping in mind also the words of I John (3: 2), "Now are we the sons of God."

A great sense of peace came over me, and I fell asleep. Upon awakening I felt assured healing was taking place. I did not let go of "Hallowed be thy name," as a whole new train of thought based on this spiritual truth continued to unfold. In two weeks I was healed.

I am sincerely grateful to God for the master Metaphysician, Christ Jesus, and for Mrs. Eddy, who followed his teaching faithfully.

I am grateful for having been raised in a home where Christian Science was our only help in all circumstances.

My parents first became interested in Science before I was born, when my father was healed in two weeks of a malady the doctors had said could be fatal, or would leave him an invalid. He lived a very active life for nearly sixty years thereafter, with rarely any time off from work for illness.

I attended Sunday School until I was twenty and then joined the local branch church and The Mother Church. Over the years I have had many healings, for which I am most grateful.

With the prayerful help of my Christian Science teacher I was healed of a severely swollen throat in a few hours. In the morning I could not eat, but that evening I was able to attend a dinner party, perfectly healed.

Several years ago, while walking to work one winter morning, I fell on a small patch of ice near my office. I heard a cracking sound as I landed. To calm myself, I declared the truths from "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468), beginning: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter." I could not stand on one foot, so I hopped into the office. Because I could not walk unaided and the foot was swelling rapidly, I was taken home. I called a Christian Science practitioner who lived several hundred miles away. There was much fear to overcome, as I felt that I had broken bones, and the foot was discolored.

After I had called this distance for several days, the practitioner thought I might prefer to get help from someone in my own city. That night I called a local practitioner. She gave me many helpful thoughts and strong support. The following morning I called again. Her assurances that I was always God's perfect child, and the citations she asked me to study, were all relevant to the necessary work. I had been staying on the davenport, and because I live alone, neighbors were bringing me food, and someone stayed with me at night, in case I needed help. After talking with the practitioner I studied what she had recommended, and then I read a Sentinel. I felt quite relaxed, so I lay back and said, half aloud, "Father, I can do no more. I'm in Your hands."

I must have dozed off, because I was awakened by the sound and feeling of the ankle going back into place. I was able to stand on the foot but could not bend the toes to walk yet. I called the practitioner, and we both rejoiced for this progress. She supported me further with prayer, and the following night I was again awakened when the toes adjusted themselves. Although the discoloration did not abate immediately, I was able to wear a shoe and go to work. Within a month I made a long trip, and could wear high heels again. The foot was healed.

I have learned that in declaring the truth I must include all mankind, because if an error is not true for me, it is not true for any of God's ideas.
