A Fresh View of Business

Business sometimes appears unduly dependent on the stock market, responding, one might say, to the financial emotions of the nation. An investment broker was experiencing the result of this concerted emotionalism. Hardly anyone was spending money. Everyone was tightening his mental belt. Several months went by without adequate income for the broker and his family.

This man was a Christian Scientist, and he saw that fresh ideas were needed about business and his part in it. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, "Spirit, God, gathers unformed thoughts into their proper channels, and unfolds these thoughts, even as He opens the petals of a holy purpose in order that the purpose may appear."^{Science and Health, p. 506;} The businessman realized that he could completely depend on Spirit for fresh ideas to solve his problem.

This man began to put business activity on a spiritual basis, seeing that all activity is in Mind, God, expressing infinite wisdom and intelligence. There wasn't actually any less money in the nation. But the immediate business outlook was proving discouraging for the brokerage business. The businessman, however, knew that divine Love displaces fear, that Love being ever present and ever active was already at work. From his study one statement stood out. "Love alone can impart the limitless idea of infinite Mind."^{p. 510;}
