A COLLEGE STUDENT WRITES

Will Travel Enrich You?

Students are finding it easier and easier to travel. Reduced fares and long summer vacations have something to do with it, but I think there's a deeper motive. Travel is not only enjoyable; it changes you. By learning about different places and people and by exchanging points of view and making crucial decisions, students feel they're likely to mature faster than they would in the familiar atmosphere of home.

Travel enhances character. It provides opportunity, not just to enjoy the scenery, but to observe differences of mood, custom, and mental climate. Of course, the fact is that there is just one family of man, God's own creation, with each member expressing God's spiritual qualities. Christian Science is committed to a practical and far-reaching demonstration of this fact. But through travel you can catch a glimpse of the infinite variety within this family.

Paul must have been one of the most intrepid travelers of his day. In spreading Christianity he met a variety of people with backgrounds even more diverse than in the present-day Mediterranean. His letters to young Christian churches indicate that he was very aware of the particular philosophies, religions, and social practices challenging Christianity in each country.
