Flight Paths and Thought Paths
The flight had been uneventful, so far. Takeoffs and landings had been gentle.
Suddenly the captain's voice came tersely over the intercom system: "Fasten all seat belts." No sooner had the loudspeakers clicked into silence than the jetliner dived into thick, turbulent clouds. Then, without warning, it was picked up like a leaf in a fall gale and tossed all over the place. Lightning was flashing everywhere. There was a loud crash from the galley as something broke loose. Steam poured out. Some passengers screamed.
For the first time in some sixty thousand miles and seven months of intensive travel one passenger on board found himself facing a real challenge.
