Traveling, but Abiding with God

Going away? Traveling to some other place, some other continent; by air, by automobile, walking, ocean sailing—the prospect is exciting. Seeing new faces, communicating with people of other tongues, feeling firsthand the atmosphere of other cultures, religions, and climates. Delving into the origins of national customs, becoming acquainted with the lives of great people in history. Appreciating the treasures of art and architecture, as well as the natural beauties of other countries and continents: all this can be fascinating, memorable, enriching, sheer joy.

But while doing these things, it is always wise to guard one's mental home and keep carefully one's spiritual peace and consciousness of good. Then no sorrow can spoil the happiness of the journey or steal the benefits of the experience.

Thinking—both our own and the world's—determines the events of our human lives. Indeed, Christian Science shows that conditions of the body and all that we experience are always the objectification of conscious and unconscious thoughts entertained in the human mind. If our thoughts are God-derived—ideas emanating from the divine Mind, therefore spiritual, pure, based upon the understanding of real being as the expression of Life, Truth, and Love—we are assured of harmony while we travel. No discord can disrupt the orderly development of the itinerary. No unexpected event can deprive us of the joy we have planned.
