An Interview: on urban renewal
Thomas H. Jenkins is associate professor of community planning and sociology at the University of Cincinnati. Recently he's been planning director of the Queensgate II urban renewal project in Cincinnati. Before that he worked with the Boston Redevelopment Authority as project director for the Washington Park urban renewal area. During this time he served as president of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Cambridge, Massachusetts. He has graduate degrees from the University of Chicago and Harvard University.
Is your concern for the city personal as well as professional?
Yes, it is. Personally, I love cities. After all, cities are where you find civilization has been born and developed throughout the ages. It's where art and other forms of culture flourish. It's where people of various kinds get together and rise above provincialism.
