The Heaven of Divine Mind

As children, many of us were taught the myth that the only way to get into heaven is to die. So although heaven was undoubtedly desirable, it was also rather gladly put off into the here-after.

However, by changing our concept of God, Christian Science changes our concept of heaven. The same spiritual understanding that reveals God as omnipresent Principle, Spirit, or Mind, reveals heaven as spiritual. Mrs. Eddy's definition of "heaven begins, "Harmony; the reign of Spirit; government by divine Principle." Science and Health, p. 587; Heaven is the eternal condition of divine Mind. Heaven is how God sees things. Then, just as God is here and now, heaven is here and now. Just as "the reign of Spirit" and "government by divine Principle" are absolute facts to be presently demonstrated, heaven is up to us—to our realization of it.

Sometimes the student of Christian Science still finds himself putting off heaven somewhat into the hereafter. Granted, it may not be the same old myth of happiness postponed until after death. But it may be an attitude of postponement until after one has demonstrated spirituality—or after all other sick, unhappy, or mistaken mortals are led to discover Christian Science! No matter how logical the reason seems at the moment, no one ever experiences heaven by putting it off into the future.
