Six years ago I was suffering from kidney trouble. All physical activity was painful and difficult; the doctors gave me five years to live. I had no home in England at that time. I did not seem able to pray or read the Bible. Then one night I found myself saying aloud the Lord's Prayer very slowly, and it was then I turned to God for help.

Within a few days a relative wrote from England offering to share her home with me. Another letter came from a friend offering me Christian Science. I knew nothing of Christian Science, but I felt this was an answer to prayer, I wrote, accepting the offer of some Christian Science literature.

On arrival in England I found a copy of the Sentinel awaiting me, and I soon felt I must learn more about Christian Science. I got in touch with the local Reading Room, and was given a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Later a member of the church brought me a Christian Science Quarterly and explained how to study the Lesson-Sermon. She also took me to a Wednesday testimony meeting. As I walked into the church, I saw on the wall Mrs. Eddy's words: "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494). A great sense of peace came over me. I had never before been so aware of God's presence. I studied on my own for a while and threw away all medicines. Relying solely on Christian Science, I found my health improved.
