Priceless, Eternal Verities

One is sometimes tempted these days to feel fearful, discouraged, or disgusted by the discordant events newspapers picture. One's natural reaction is, "What can we do about this? What can be done to stop all this inharmony? What is the answer?"

Christian Science gives a healing answer to these questions. Mrs. Eddy writes in Miscellaneous Writings, "Every material belief hints the existence of spiritual reality; and if mortals are instructed in spiritual things, it will be seen that material belief, in all its manifestations, reversed, will be found the type and representative ofverities priceless, eternal, and just at hand." Mis., pp. 60, 61; What an interesting prospect to take the material belief involved in an inharmonious situation and, mentally reversing it, find the spiritual reality!

Through our study of Christian Science we learn that in solving any problem the starting point of our mental work must be God. We begin by allaying fear and affirming God to be All-in-all, the only power and presence. God, divine Mind, Life, Truth, Love, is the source of all true existence. Divine Mind is good; therefore all true existence is eternally good. What though the material senses present the opposite of the real, pictures of hate, greed, sorrow, sickness, and other forms of evil? It is entirely our decision whether or not to accept these pictures. We never need admit into our consciousness what will work against our well-being.
