"Fire by night"
Do we think of nightfall as a period when good becomes shadowy and evil a sinister power? We need to challenge this godless belief and shake it down to its dust-level. We should ask ourselves, "Do we believe we are subject in these hours to the rule of fear or to the reign of spiritual good, our God-given heritage?"
A traveler through a jungle can kindle a fire at night for warmth and protection, even as primitive people used its blaze as a shield against beasts of prey. Similarly, the steady radiance of a spiritual idea can dispel the darkness of fear with the comforting glow of spiritual light.
A student of Christian Science proved this when plans to attend a conference after a late work schedule made it necessary for her to arrive in a large city at one thirty in the morning. The only available accommodations were in an area considered unsafe after dark.
