Do You Want to Stop Smoking?

Many people want to stop smoking. They recognize the bondage that accompanies this habit and yearn for freedom from it. Many who have tried to stop by using willpower or material remedies have not succeeded. Isn't there a better way to eliminate this enslaving practice and gain the peace that comes with liberation?

Yes, there is. It is to turn to God, recognizing that the power of His Christ, or Truth, frees men from every form of bondage. St. Paul knew this when he admonished the Galatians, "Stand fast ... in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."^{Gal. 5:1;}

Christian Science teaches how to turn to God, how to know Him better and apply this understanding to gain freedom. Christian Science, deriving its authority from the Scriptures, stresses that God, divine Mind, Love, or Spirit, has infinite power and controls the universe, including man, in faultless harmony. Man, the true identity of each one of us, is made in the image of God as the Bible states, and expresses the strength and completeness of Mind. Bondage of any kind is contrary to God, or good, and hence is actually without power or reality.
