Truth Steadies the Heart

Over the years biologists, songwriters, and football coaches have used the term "heart" to describe many different things. Just what is heart? In the Glossary of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy gives this clear definition: "Heart. Mortal feelings, motives, affections, joys, and sorrows." Science and Health, p. 587; Much is being attempted to correct the discordant heart conditions of mankind. And many measures are being taken to try to alleviate certain pressures and tensions—especially for the business executive, who is thought to be particularly prone to diseases associated with stress.

The permanent solution for heart problems is found within the teachings of Christian Science, for here is presented the revelation in human consciousness of the Christ-idea, which restores health and well-being when specifically applied. Christian Science reveals that the real identity of each individual lives in God as His image, or reflection. The mortal, material personality should therefore be rejected as illusion and replaced with the perfect, spiritual concept, or original status, of man as depicted in the first chapter of Genesis.

Mrs. Eddy writes, "Self-renunciation of all that constitutes a so-called material man, and the acknowledgment and achievement of his spiritual identity as the child of God, is Science that opens the very flood-gates of heaven; whence good flows into every avenue of being, cleansing mortals of all uncleanness, destroying all suffering, and demonstrating the true image and likeness."
