Some twenty-six years ago I found a Christian Science Reading Room in the Middle West. I walked in and asked the librarian to teach me how to read the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. Kindly and patiently she instructed me until she was called to greet another visitor. I remained in the study room for quite some time, and when I left the Reading Room, the world seemed much brighter. Although I had not told the librarian, I had been unable to retain any food for months. After eating dinner that evening I realized that I had received my healing.

Early the next morning I returned to the Reading Room and purchased a copy of the textbook and the Christian Science Quarterly and began the study of the Bible-Lesson. The next Sunday I attended my first Christian Science service and soon afterward applied to Boston for membership in The Mother Church. As soon as we were settled in a city, I applied for membership in a branch church, and was soon busy with committee work. I found church duties most rewarding, and was sincerely grateful to be so employed. During the years I have belonged to many branch churches at different times. In Florida I had the joyous privilege of serving as First Reader in a Christian Science Society.

A hymn by Mrs. Eddy entitled "Love" has been a great source of encouragement to me. It reads in part (Poems, p. 6):
